Where are you from originally? Brooklyn, NY
Educational background: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Political Science from Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY
Previous experience: I wore a lot of hats in the last few years and worked as a Firefighter, Refugee Aid Worker, Political Interns for several Congressional Members, and Medical Researcher
Career plans/goals: I aspire to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner working to promote mental health awareness and treatments in the immigrant community.
Fun fact: Won first place in an hour long game of Twister
Favorite study or social space: Sterling Memorial Library on Main Campus
Favorite class (so far): Psychopharmacology with Dr. Underwood has to be one of my favorite classes
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: Handsome Dan (Yale's Mascot) and Officer Heidi the Police Dog

What would you tell someone who is interested in this program? YSN opens doors beyond your imagination. The skills, friendships, mentorships, and connections you build during these years last a lifetime.
Lauren Anderson

Adult-Gerontology Acute Care
Where are you from originally? I am from San Diego, CA
Educational background: I graduated from Chapman University in 2022 with a B.S. in Health Sciences and a minor in Business Administration.
Previous experience: While in college, I was a Certified Nursing Assistant for 2 years at a long-term care facility. After I graduated, I transitioned to a Patient Care Assistant role on a medical/surgical floor at my local hospital.
Career plans/goals: After graduating from YSN, I plan to transition into the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner role and serve patients who are critically ill. My passion and work experience, combined with my Yale education, will be foundational cornerstones to allow me to achieve my life’s goal of helping others and improving health care for all.
Fun fact: I danced for 15 years growing up. Now, you can find me dancing around the hospital floors!
Favorite study or social space: My favorite study spot is The Quadrangle on main campus Yale.
Favorite class (so far): During my GEPN year, my favorite class was Care of the Adult. This was a fundamental nursing course that solidified my love for this profession.
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: My favorite part of YSN has been meeting lifelong friends and making both professional and personal connections with faculty. From spending everyday with classmates, to meeting new preceptors during clinical, I have always felt very welcome at YSN. I think that it is important to foster this tight-knit community, especially as we enter the healthcare field as Nurse Practitioners.
Favorite New Haven pizza: Sally’s Apizza in Wooster Square is my absolute favorite!

Family Nurse Practitioner
Where are you from originally? I am from Orange County, California.
Educational background: I graduated from The University of Arizona where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Care, Health & Society, with a minor in Public Health.
Previous experience: I have experience in senior living, hospice, caregiving, and as a physiology TA.
Career plans/goals: The beauty of nursing is that there are always options. As a future FNP, I'm excited to work in Primary Care and work to further specialize.
Fun fact: In high school, I was eager to learn how to swim, so I decided to join a water polo and swim team. It was scary but eventually, I learned to swim, tread water, and make varsity.
Favorite study or social space: Science Hill on Main Campus.
Favorite class (so far): - My favorite class so far has been pharmacology, it is a tough class but I have learned so much!
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: I really do value the community aspect of YSN and the friends that I have made here.

What would you tell someone who is interested in this program? Make the most of everything Yale, YSN, and New England have to offer. While being a GEPN/MSN student comes with its challenges, our professors and staff are supportive of our academic and career endeavors.
Jamison Dorsey

Career plans/goals: I aspire to be a nurse-midwife providing care to underserved communities and mitigating maternal health disparities, especially addressing the Black Maternal Health Crisis.
Fun fact: I experienced landing at the 2nd most dangerous airport in the world on my first trip abroad during a volunteer trip to Honduras! #Toncontin International Airport

Dang Lam

Where are you from originally? I am originally from Los Angeles, California
Educational background: I earned a BS in biology from University of California Los Angeles.
Previous experience: Before enrolling at YSN, I gained five years of experience as a medical assistant at practices specializing in ophthalmology, cardiology, family medicine, and dermatology.
Fun fact: It was hard to leave sunny LA for Connecticut, but I’ve come to enjoy the beauty of New England architecture and aesthetics. Here, I’ve found a second family in my classmates at Yale School of Nursing.
Favorite study or social space: I always look forward to studying at Poindexter Cafe located inside the dazzling Bridgerton-esque Graduate Hotel.
Favorite class (so far): My favorite class is Pharmacology because its application is relevant to our daily lives. It also teaches me how different drugs interact with one another in providing therapeutic effects in our bodies.
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: On my days off, I enjoy exploring my neighborhood: fine dining, coffee shops, historical museums, and beautiful landscapes.
Favorite New Haven pizza: If you are a fan of pizza, I would recommend trying BAR and Modern Pizza!
What would you tell someone who is interested in this program? My advice for prospective students would be to have an open mind and explore their interests before embarking on the long journey of becoming a healthcare provider. As a future nurse practitioner, I hope to provide high-quality care for my patients and inspire them to live a holistically balanced life.
Danielle Lee

Pediatric Primary Care
Where are you from originally? I’m from Los Angeles, California (626 area!)
Past educational experience: I majored in media at UC Berkeley during undergrad and switched careers to enter this program.
Previous experience: I worked as a phlebotomist for a few years before this program and still use these skills at the HAVEN clinic in town (shameless plug: please reach out to me if you’d be interested in volunteering at HAVEN)! I was also volunteering at many different hospitals throughout LA to see where I wanted to end up.
Career plans/goals: After graduating, my goal is to be in a fellowship. After this, I want to be back home and working in primary care in California.
Fun facts: My favorite place to go ever is the beach. I can lay for hours and not get sunburnt! 😊
Favorite study or social space: The Graduate in downtown or the Sterling library, of course!
Favorite class (so far): Pharmacology during GEPN year
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: YSN is such a tight knit community and really a second home. It’s also nice to network outside of YSN at old campus or other school campuses for a breath of fresh air and know that you are living within a community of likeminded individuals.
Favorite New Haven pizza: Sally’s for their amazing sauce (but so recommend trying every place before ranking!)
What would you tell someone who is interested in this program? Make sure that this is what you want to do. The more you are motivated to succeed in something you put your mind to, the more enriching your time at Yale will be. This time at school seems like a long time, but it goes by so quickly! Take advantage of Yale’s network and opportunities that come your way.
Jiyeon Lee
MSN - Year 2
Pediatric Primary Care
Where are you from originally? I’m from Seoul, South Korea!
Past educational experience: I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Pittsburgh
Previous experience: I worked as a school nurse assistant and research assistant during my undergraduate years. I recently started working as a research assistant for a neonatal research team here at Yale as well.
Career plans/goals: After graduation, I hope to work as a pediatric nurse practitioner and pursue a doctorate at some point to conduct research in my areas of interest!
Fun facts: I love playing/trying out musical instruments, singing for fun, and traveling!
Favorite study or social space: I would say the Hub and group study rooms on the first floor are my favorite study/social spaces. There is also a cozy room with recliner chairs on the ground floor, which is a great place to relax in between classes!
Favorite class (so far): So far, my favorite class is Primary Care of Children 1 !
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: My favorite thing about Yale/YSN is the welcoming atmosphere. I was a new student here last semester, and everyone I had a conversation with was more than willing to answer my questions about classes, YSN, Yale, and life in New Haven in general!
Favorite New Haven pizza: I’ve only tried Sally’s so far, so I’ll make a final decision once I try all the pizza places here! 😀
What would you tell someone who is interested in this program? Please don’t hesitate to ask us questions – the Student Ambassadors were in your shoes just this time last year and will be there for you as you navigate through the application process!
Yuly Rios Mendez

Psychiatric-Mental Health
Where are you from originally? I am originally from Colombia, but before moving to New Haven, I used to live in Washington DC.
Educational background: I hold a degree of Psychologist from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Cali, Colombia and a Master in Social work from University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA.
Previous experience: In DC I worked as a licensed clinical social worker in primary care clinic specifically in behavioral health integration. Before this, I worked with Colombian internal migrants in reintegration projects.
Career plans/goals: After graduation I would love to work in primary care, in the integrated/consultation psychiatry field.
Fun facts: When not in school, like to spend time walking in east rock park with my rescue dog. I enjoy outdoor activities specially scuba diving.
Favorite study or social space: I love arriving early to school to grab a study room all for myself!
Favorite class (so far): During the GEPN program my favorite class was pediatrics. In my specialty, so far, I am loving Psychopathology.
Favorite thing about Yale/YSN: The student life/services team. They rock!
Favorite New Haven pizza: I love the Italian bomb Pizza from Modern.
What would you tell someone who is interested in this program? Apply! If you feel this program meets your needs, do not be afraid to apply to Yale School of Nursing just because its name.
